New Ambassadors support £1million target

The Saints Foundation is pleased to announce its first two Ambassadors who are making a public commitment to support the work of the Charity. Southampton Football Club Executive Chairman Nicola Cortese along with Iwan Thomas MBE, arguably the finest 400m runner that Britain has ever seen, have both pledge their support to champion the work of the Foundation.

Nicola Cortese explained, “As Executive Chairman of Southampton Football Club I fully understand the importance of the roll the Club plays in the local community. Having been involved with many of the Saints Foundation projects and experiencing first hand the valuable work they do, I feel the impact locally is clearly visible. My motivation to support the Charity stems from a desire to help the less fortunate through an infrastructure that creates opportunities and a support network that inspires both young and old. I look forward to achieving the fund raising target and making a difference together.”

There is no better illustration of the Chairman’s commitment to the Charity than this weekend when the Club is donating the home shirt to display the Saints Foundation logo, offering a great opportunity to promote the charity’s profile and its fund raising ambitions.

The Saints Foundation is leading the way within the football industry to develop new and creative ideas in order to make a difference in its community. It aims is to reach a £1 million fund raising target each year and introduce a number of specific projects to help the needs of community groups less fortunate than most.   The initial landmark and first project is to raise £150 000 which is required to build a Multi Use Games Area for the local St Marys Community just a stone’s throw from St Marys Stadium.

Former Athletics Champion Iwan Thomas is proud to be involved and expressed his delight at the opportunity, “Still living in Southampton, I’m aware of the history and excitement that Saints has on people from the region. I’m looking forward to getting involved in the fund raising activities and ensuring more people are aware of the fantastic opportunities being created by the work of the Foundation.”

The Saints Foundation will be introducing additional Ambassadors in the near future to maintain the momentum and ensure the ambitions are achieved. If you would like further information on the work of the Saints Foundation; visit www.saintsfoundation.co.uk or call 0845 6889370.
