Sporting Success For Tauntons College

Tauntons College 2nd Team coached and managed by Saints Foundation coaches were celebrating on Wednesday 16th March after winning the Hampshire Schools/College Cup.  After Knocking out the holders Itchen College in the 1st Round Tauntons were strong favourites to go on and lift the trophy, wins against Eastleigh and Totton College followed, which led Tauntons to the final where they would play Sparsholt College.  After conceding a late goal to draw against Sparsholt in the league earlier in the season, Tauntons were eager to win this game.

The Final itself was held at Southampton FC training ground which was an added incentive for both teams as the facilities and pitch were fantastic conditions to play football.  Sparsholt started the game very brightly but didnt have the cutting edge in front of goal after hitting the post three times inside the first 30 minutes, and on 38 minutes Tauntons scored the only goal of the game after Tapiwa won the race against the Sparsholt goalkeeper to the ball, when he squared the ball to Jake Plummer to slot home.  In the 2nd half there were few chances, and Tauntons hung on to there lead to beat Sparsholt one nil and to lift the trophy.

Tauntons 2nd side are also on course for the double as they currently lie second in the league with three games remaining.

Tauntons College and Saints Foundation Coach Andy Marks added:the team have worked there socks off all season beating some good sides along the way, they have also shown a good attitude and desire in matches, and have got there just rewards with this result”.

It is also the 3rd season in a row that Tauntons College have won a trophy in this competition after the 1st team had successfully defended their cup for the previous two years. Tauntons College have been supported by Saints Foundation and coaches Andy Marks and James Baxter for the last 3 years. Both coaches provide their knowledge and experieneces during training sessions each week as well as on a Matchday.
