The Saints Disability programme continues to prove successful with over 120 young people and adults with disabilities taking part in the Foundations coaching programme each week. A recent event held at St Marys Stadium celebrated the success of the programme with parents and players meeting Saints player Lee Holmes and Saints Foundation scarfs were presented to all the players.
The disability programme part funded by the Football Foundation creates a level playing field of opportunities for young people and adults with either physical or cognitive impairments to enjoy the benefits of playing football and representing Saints!
The past 12 months have seen an increase in numbers at our venues, as well as a successful trip to Barcelona which was our first overseas experience and proved a fantastic experience for all those that travelled. Plans are underway for the next overseas trip in Guernsey over the Easter 2012, with a group of 17 travelling over to the Channel Islands to compete against local teams from the Island and Jersey.
Beyond just football, the project has had a huge impact on the lives of those taking part with the coaching sessions improving a range of life skills from self esteem, confidence and sequencing skills transferable to everyday life as well as the expanded network of friendships created through the project.
The project operates through grants and donations and the Saints Foundation is committed to sustaining the project for the long term. If you would like to make a donation and support the programme click here and support the Saints Foundation’s ambitions to make a difference in your community.
